A comment from an article found on the Drudge report

nataya wrote:
The costs to the American taxpayers of Michelle Obama's trip to Spain are being understated.

In addition to the Air Force Two airliner that took Michelle and her daughter to Spain, there are numerous other aircraft that accompany the First Lady when she travels any distance from home base: there are the escort aircraft (fighter planes), there is at least one C-47 that must cart the bullet-proof limousines for the First Lady and her guests and the special cars used by the Secret Service, and there is a cargo plane to take the jet fuel over to Spain for the return trip back to The States. (we do NOT buy local jet fuel for the president or First Lady when they travel abroad). We also have to pay a per diem -- $273-a-day federal per diem for five days -- for each of the 70 Secret Service agents who must accompany a First Lady when she travels; that per diem is in addition to the lodging and food expenses (paid by the taxpayers) for the 70 Secret Service agents traveling with Michelle.

The costs to the American taxpayers for Mrs. Obama's "private" jaunt are stupendous and outrageous.

Was there NO place within the United States that Mrs. Obama would find interesting or worth visiting?

She COULD be touting America as a tourist destination; instead she is making a clear statement that there is nothing worth seeing in the United States.

She COULD have been spending American dollars to boost the American economy; instead, she boosted the Spanish economy. Gee, thanks, Michelle.

We have been LECTURED by President Obama about the need of EVERYONE to sacrifice during these stressful economic times. I guess Michelle Antoinette didn't get the memo. She is living higher off the hog than she ever dreamed possible.

My hope is that after the 2012 election, Mr. and Mrs. Obama will be free to travel anywhere they want to as PRIVATE citizens paying their own way.

Royalty needs not explain, all us little people need to suck it up and defer to them.

How would you know?

CHICAGO (AP) -- They may have been the world's most famous man-eating lions, but it turns out they made other dinner arrangements from time to time.
Scientists have determined that the Tsavo lions probably ate about 35 Kenyans in the 19th century and not the 135 they've long been credited with devouring.
The Tsavo lions are both now stuffed and on display at the Field Museum in Chicago. Their killing spree inspired the 1996 movie "The Ghost and the Darkness."
Scientists from the University of California at Santa Cruz have studied the lions' bones and fur. They determined in a study released Monday that the lions probably killed about 35, although they may have had as many as 72 humans or as few as four.

Considering that the count was made by an engineer, on the scene, rather than by scientists more than a hundred years removed, and also considering the likely hood that those lions had been processing deceased natives since cub hood, I'm going with the original number.

I'm thinking that could have been more than a little light.

From the Wall Street Journal, Nancy Care

On Nov. 2, the Congressional Budget Office estimated what the plans will likely cost. An individual earning $44,000 before taxes who purchases his own insurance will have to pay a $5,300 premium and an estimated $2,000 in out-of-pocket expenses, for a total of $7,300 a year, which is 17% of his pre-tax income. A family earning $102,100 a year before taxes will have to pay a $15,000 premium plus an estimated $5,300 out-of-pocket, for a $20,300 total, or 20% of its pre-tax income. Individuals and families earning less than these amounts will be eligible for subsidies paid directly to their insurer.

• Sec. 202 (p. 91-92) of the bill requires you to enroll in a "qualified plan." If you get your insurance at work, your employer will have a "grace period" to switch you to a "qualified plan," meaning a plan designed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. If you buy your own insurance, there's no grace period. You'll have to enroll in a qualified plan as soon as any term in your contract changes, such as the co-pay, deductible or benefit.

• Sec. 59b (pp. 297-299) says that when you file your taxes, you must include proof that you are in a qualified plan. If not, you will be fined thousands of dollars. Illegal immigrants are exempt from this requirement.

• Sec. 412 (p. 272) says that employers must provide a "qualified plan" for their employees and pay 72.5% of the cost, and a smaller share of family coverage, or incur an 8% payroll tax. Small businesses, with payrolls from $500,000 to $750,000, are fined less.

The first paragraph basically states that you will pay 17% to 20% of your total income for medical care. Rest assured that it will be reflected in your wages, and not in a good way.

The second says even if you have insurance that you are satisfied with, as soon as it changes, you will have to switch to the government option. Considering that they change at least yearly, you will be in a Govt. program.

The third says that you have to prove you are in compliance, or be fined, or go to jail, unless you are in the country illegally, then just continue to use the Emergency room for every sniffle.

The fourth says you must pay for your employees insurance, which sounds good, but a “Mom and Pop” business will likely close their doors because they can’t afford to dish out. If you think not, it happens every time the minimum wage goes up. I might be wrong, but having a job and no insurance is better than having insurance and no job to buy groceries and all the necessities of living.

Over all, this “plan” to provide health care is the biggest tax increase in the history of this country. It is a tax increase because I will be forced to pay for something that I don’t want, and subsidize people who want it but don’t want to work for it. The Feds will be entwined in every aspect of the insurance industry.
I predict that the insurers will either collapse due to interference, or be buried under a pile of money, later to blamed for “fraud”.

It is certain that the taxpayer will bear the burden, and be denied the benefit of making decisions in their own life.

If this passes we're screwed. I can't pay an additional 17% in taxes, and live any kind of life.

This is the perfect example of how out of touch the congress is with real people, they don't relate the dollar amount specified with a real wage. They mustn't consider the 15K a year to be burdensome.

I wish I could say the same.

We went to a flood last night

My son called last night to ask if he could borrow my Jeep or Bronco to haul sand bags(???)

That's the first indication I had that something was going poorly for the stupids.
He told me the water was up to the registers in his old store and the District had called to see if he could help because the new manager was out of reach for some reason.
When he said "up to the registers", silly me, I thought it was creeping in that far. Actually it was covering the floor a couple of inches deep, with the water outside eight inches or so higher than the floor.
Per the news this morning, we erased our rain deficit for the year last night. Seven inches in a couple of hours.
The pictures above are of standing water, very important that is!
I and a couple of very nice young men, redirected traffic and pushed several cars out of the deeper water.
The white Lincoln will be on ebay soon as the man driving it tried to get out the door and then left through the sun (flood roof) roof. He was sitting on the top of the car when we went by.
I have a 4X4 diesel pick up that sits pretty high, and enough sense to turn around if it gets too deep. We plowed through slowly to the store to get money for sand bags. I parked on the side walk and talked to the employees through the door.
Sand bags were not going to help.
At that time I got a few lessons in how stupid some people are. Any one with any type of car that didn't float plowed along through the water, some of them with a wake a couple of feet high.
The drivers of cars we tried to redirect away from the deepest part, would look at you like you were trying to trick them, and then continue on until the water killed the engine or they started to float. Cars with low bumpers, had waves running up across the hood to the windshield.
They were still coming when we were done and finally went home.
The killer is I could see high pavement, and no one went that way.
The cars in the really deep water are in the street. The police actually blocked that road.
I enjoyed being an a$$hole for a little, when every other car on the street was in the center lane to stay out of the water, I got into it, had a clear lane, and thew some really high rooster tails.
I love me some tall truck.

Oh!!! Really?

Oh, and while the Democratic National Committee produced a spot lampooning "Exxon John," ABC reported that Exxon Mobil Corp. execs have donated more money to Obama than McCain.

“Abuses of workers’ true wishes not only are potential, they are guaranteed. There is no ‘free choice’ in this travesty, clearly a payoff to union leaders who contributed so handsomely to the Democrats’ November election victory.” (The San Francisco Examiner, 02/16/07)
“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has decided to hold a vote this Wednesday on perhaps the most unpopular element of the Democratic agenda… Under the so-called card-check bill, a company would no longer have the right to demand a secret-ballot election to certify a union, thus stripping 140 million American workers of the right to decide in private whether to organize.” (The Wall Street Journal, 6/18/07)

Alas, the abandonment of babies to suffer and die on the modern equivalent of a Spartan cliff did not require confronting evil when Obama saw it. Indeed, Obama turned a blind eye, leading the battle to defeat Illinois' version of the federal Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, which would have treated babies living, albeit briefly, outside the womb as, well, babies. He opposed the bill in 2003 (as he had a similar one in 2001), saying it would undermine Roe v. Wade. But even after Roe-neutral language was included - wording good enough that it won support for the federal version of the bill from abortion-rights stalwart Sen. Barbara Boxer - Obama remained unmoved.

Change? Sounds like more of the same to me. Nuanced, special interest money, pro gay (not that there's anything wrong with that), pro abortion ( makes you wonder where abortion activists would be if their parents had felt the same) shut up and pay your taxes, get to work I'll decide who needs your money more than you!

Some in our nation have forgotten, before it is forbidden to mention the name of our faith, let us remind others where we came from!!

Do you know what it means?

LAUS DEO

by Wilda

One detail that is never mentioned is that in Washington , D.C. there can never be a building of greater height than the Washington Monument .

With all the uproar about removing the ten commandments, etc., this is worth a moment or two of your time. I was not aware of this amazing historical information.

On the aluminum cap, atop the Washington Monument in Washington , D.C. , are displayed two words: Laus Deo.

No one can see these words. In fact, most visitors to the monument are totally unaware they are even there and for that matter, probably couldn't care less.

Once you know Laus Deo's history , you will want to share this with everyone you know. These words have been there for many years; they are 555 feet , 5.125 inches high, perched atop the monument, facing skyward to the Father of our nation, overlooking the 69 square miles which comprise the District of Columbia , capital of the United States of America

Laus Deo! Two seemingly insignificant, unnoticed words. Out of sight and, one might think, out of mind, but very meaningfully placed at the highest point over what is the most powerful city in the most successful nation in the world.

So, what do those two words, in Latin, composed of just four syllables and only seven letters, possibly mean? Very simply, they say ' Praise be to God!'

Though construction of this giant obelisk began in 1848, when James Polk was President of the United States , it was not until 1888 that the monument was inaugurated and opened to the public. It took twenty-five years to finally cap the memorial with a tribute to the Father of our nation, Laus Deo 'Praise be to God!'

From atop this magnificent granite and marble structure, visitors may take in the beautiful panoramic view of the city with its division into four major segments. From that vantage point, one can also easily see the original plan of the designer, Pierre Charles l'Enfant ..a perfect cross imposed upon the landscape, with the White House to the north. The Jefferson Memorial is to the south, the Capitol to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west.

A cross you ask? Why a cross? What about separation of church and state? Yes, a cross; separation of church and state was not, is not, in the Constitution. So, read on. How interesting and, no doubt, intended to carry a profound meaning for those who bother to notice.

Praise be to God! Within the monument itself are 898 steps and 50 landings. As one climbs the steps and pauses at the landings the memorial stones share a message.

On the 12th Landing is a prayer offered b y the City of Baltimore ;
on the 20th is a memorial presented by some Chinese Christians;
on the 24th a presentation
made by Sunday School children from New York and Philadelphia quoting Proverbs 10:7, Luke 18:16 and Proverbs 22:6. Praise be to God!

When the cornerstone of the Washington Monument was laid on July 4th, 1848 deposited within it were many items including the Holy Bible presented by the Bible Society. Praise be to God! Such was the discipline, the moral direction, and the spiritual mood given by the founder and first President of our unique democracy 'One Nation, Under God.'

I am awed by Washington 's prayer for America Have you ever read it? Well, now is your unique opportunity, so read on!

' Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.'

Laus Deo!

When one stops to observe the inscriptions found in public places all over our nation's capitol, he or she will easily find the signature of God, as it is unmistakably inscribed everywhere you look. You may forget the width and height of 'Laus Deo ', its location, or the architects but no one who reads this will be able to forget its meaning, or these words: 'Unless the Lord builds the house its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.' (Psalm 127: 1)

This E-mail came from the Love of my Life, I've seen it before, but it's never too late to spread the word. The "separation of church and state" is an interpretation, and as such it's subject, part of the Constitution, should be read as the framers intended, not as the ACLU decides.

Atheism is a religion unto itself, that of worship of man, and no less is the refusal to acknowledge something greater than ourselves a dogma.

On that premise alone would the ACLU and our liberal media lose their claim to tolerance and justice.

Things that make you go...What The $&^@

Today while cruising around the Interwebz, I read an article about Da Reverant J Jackson. The author implied that Jesse has never been around a mike that he didn't love.
.
Well, that's a given, the man hasn't shut up since 1966, except when someone is asking about his (illegitimate, that is) children.
.
Then the Rev. jumped out in front and apologised.
.
The Obmessiah accepts his apology and floats above the reaction. Convenient, don't you think?
.
The premiere race baiter makes a "mistake", the racially diverse candidate forgives, and points out his superior moral differences from the old guard.
.
I wounder if the whole mess was arranged to give the Obamessaih some blue collar votes by showing that he doesn't identify with the likes of Jackson and Sharpton?
.
With the amount of time that the Rev. spends in front of a mike, the number of times that such gaffs show up in the public record, and the possible consequences of such mistakes, I would certainly keep my yak shut. I think Jesse would also.
.
Do I think the whole thing was set up as a spring board for political gain?
.
I wouldn't be surprised.

Jesse has let da rat outta da sack!

It's amazing what comes out when the mic is hot and no one knows it.

Da Reverant Jesse got caught in an indiscreet remark. That is, he was saying how he really feels about the Obamessiah. Castration was mentioned, while delivering the epitaph in "Ebonics" fo tawkin' down to black people.

I don't guess that's the same as a death threat, which will bring the Secret Service down on your stupid butt.

He's been on "Good Morning America" for ten long minutes, trying to obfuscate his way out of it.

Good luck chump, why don't you go extort another few millions from someone?

The sneaky Dragon ,,,,Obama

Obama Proposes New Payroll tax on incomes above $250,000
breitbart.com — Democrat Barack Obama would apply the Social Security payroll tax to all annual incomes above $250,000 which he says would only affect the wealthiest 3 percent of Americans. Progressive taxation was a favorite of Karl Marx, who leveraged people's jealousies against the rich to extract money from everyone.

The "Fair Tax"?

Really? How would you know? On a basic level we all know the tax code is possibly the most complicated document on earth. The amount of money it calculates and collects is mind boggling. Why, or how, would any system be any simpler, considering the sheer numbers of people and amount of money involved?

The idea of one tax, included in the price of your purchase is seductive. The end of the IRS is seductive. No more April fifteenth is seductive.

Generally the act of seduction is to present the facts in a light that will defeat resistance to an ill considered act.

Remember Murphy Lives! Nothing is as simple as it looks!

I have only heard about the fair tax lately, and only read two articles about it and already have doubts.

Boredom waiting for the storm

Some random comments as I sit here, waiting for a “subtropical depression” to come ashore.

Can they divide that weather hair any finer? It’s going to rain and the wind will blow, but not too bad. In case you’ve never been in a tropical cyclone, all those high wind speeds are a considerable height above the ground.

To the less intelligent lady who “fully respects” Mike Nifong, because he “tried to do the right thing”, are you totally nuts? Would you be so generous if he was trying to railroad your children or you by lying and covering up what he was bound by law to deliver to the defense? I’m thinking not!

Shock: kids smarter than chimps
Ok, go down to the local super store and try that in the toy department. The humans might pick things quicker, but I bet their manners aren’t as good, and they make more noise.

Federal Court Favors Illegal Immigrant Tuition Break
But a federal judge in Topeka ruled in 2005 that the plaintiffs lacked standing to bring the legal challenge because they failed to demonstrate that the law had harmed them.

Now that’s just stupid! If I’m living on a limited income, and it precludes me going to school, when a lower tuition would allow me to attend, and student loans would be lower, so I wouldn’t be buried in debt for as long, and some other group gets a special break, then brother I’m hurt!

A federal appeals court has ruled against a group of American college students challenging a Kansas law that grants cheaper in-state tuition to illegal immigrants because they attended high school in the state.

I guess because you have cheated the system the first time that makes it OK to do it again, and you get a discount! What the hell is that idiot thinking, Oh, sorry, I forgot a liberal judge, he was emoting, not thinking.

N.J. Illegal Immigrant Sanctuary Protects Murderer

Dozens of cities across the nation have proudly become illegal immigrant sanctuaries, but officials in one municipality are pondering the status after a Peruvian man with a felony record massacred three college-bound students.
Had authorities in Newark New Jersey contacted federal immigration officials after illegal alien Jose Carranza’s first felony indictment last year he would have been deported and therefore prevented from murdering three innocent youngsters in a schoolyard this month.
Instead Carranza was released on bail, despite being charged with raping a 5-year-old girl and aggravated assault and weapons violations. This week he was charged with the gruesome execution-style murders of three college-bound students, ages 18 to 20.
The shootings evidently pushed Newark authorities to violate their sanctuary policy and contact federal immigration officials who had not been previously informed about Carranza’s crime spree. If they had, Carranza would have placed in removal proceedings after his first felony arrest in October 2006.
Does this mean we can prosecute them for criminal negligence?

D.C. Day Laborer Center To Open This Month

ICE take note, this is as productive as shooting over a baited field! It’s not illegal though!

Official “HillRaiser’’ Norman Hsu has been a fugitive from the law since the early 1990s when he accepted a three-year prison sentence in California for grand theft but instead disappeared. Hsu received the jail time for cheating investors out of $1 million to purportedly operate a business that never existed.

Is that like White Water?

Thanks in part to her husband’s $10 million speech income Hillary Clinton’s latest Congressional disclosure report illustrates an astonishing financial transformation since the couple left the White House in 2001 burdened with millions of dollars in legal fees.
The disclosures (posted on Judicial Watch’s website) reveal how the former president made more than $10 million last year delivering speeches worldwide at corporate retreats, trade group gatherings and motivational seminars.
In 2006, Bill received an average of about $180,000 a speech and he collected nearly half a million dollars for a single talk to a London financial forum in the latter part of the year.
The Clintons’ assets are worth up to $50 million and Hillary is one of the wealthiest members of Congress running for president although she lags behind Republican Mitt Romney, a former venture capitalist who is worth between $190 and $250 million.
More than $3 million of the Clintons’ earnings came from a company (InfoUSA) being federally investigated for selling databases of sick and unsuspecting elderly to scam artists. The company’s owner, a wealthy entrepreneur named Vinod Gupta, has donated millions to Bill and Hillary’s campaigns and last year paid the former president $3.3 million worth of “consulting contracts” as well as $900,000 in travel expenses.

Is it just me or does this sound like payouts to a figure head for a scam, or one scam artist paying another for tips? I can't imagine how far I could travel on 900K, who are they kidding?

Rudy is a Liberal Dragon

GLENN: Right. But isn't illegal immigration a crime in and of itself?
GIULIANI: No.
GLENN: Aren't you saying --
GIULIANI: Glenn --
GLENN: You're protecting criminals by saying that being treated as a criminal is unfair. GIULIANI: Glenn, it's not a crime. I know that's very hard for people to understand, but it's not a federal crime.
GLENN: It's a misdemeanor but if you've been nailed, it is a crime. If you've been nailed, ship back and come back, it is a crime.
GIULIANI: Glenn, being an illegal immigrant, the 400,000 were not prosecuted for crimes by the federal government, nor could they be. I was U.S. attorney in the southern district of New York. So believe me, I know this. In fact, when you throw an immigrant out of the country, it's not a criminal proceeding. It's a civil proceeding.
GLENN: Is it --
GIULIANI: One of the things that congress wanted to do a year ago is to make it a crime, which indicates that it isn't.
GLENN: Should it be?
GIULIANI: Should it be? No, it shouldn't be because the government wouldn't be able to prosecute it. We couldn't prosecute 12 million people. We have only 2 million people in jail right now for all the crimes that are committed in the country, 2.5 million. If you were to make it a crime, you would have to take the resources of the criminal justice system and increase it by about 6. In other words, you'd have to take all the 800,000 police, and who knows how many police we would have to have.

This is not the attitude I want in a Chief Executive! There are just too many bad guys, so we just have to condone it and let them go! Have these people ever heard of working on a job until it's done? The cliche is "Rome wasn't built in a day", no kidding! First you secure the borders, then you start work on reducing the numbers of people who disregard all laws except the one that protects them just now. Come on Rudy man up, or girl up if that would help, show some spine!

Why isn't this in the news?

WASHINGTON -- There is some very good news in the battle to slay the budget deficit. It is being cut in half well ahead of forecasts, offering fresh evidence that reducing federal tax rates does not undermine government revenues. The Bush administration has a lot of problems on its plate, both foreign and domestic, but the budget deficit is not one of them. This is one area where President Bush's policies have been a resounding success, though don't expect to see this reported on the nightly network news shows.

The Office of Management and Budget announced last week that the annual deficit, estimated at $400 billion just a few years ago, will be $205 billion by the end of this fiscal year (which ends in September).

That's still a lot of money in a nearly $3 trillion-a-year budget, but it is 1.5 percent of the gross domestic product (the measure of everything that our economy produces each year) and it's racing downward.

The latest forecast represents a $43 billion decline from last year's deficit, which has been shrinking for three years in a row.

The administration says it is solidly on track to balance the budget in five years when it will turn into a $33 billion budget surplus by 2012. But I think OMB is much too conservative in its timeline projections. If the economy continues to perform well, as I think it will, and the president keeps the lid on federal spending, as he plans to do, we will likely reach a surplus well before 2012.

Fair???? To Whom???

.
I just listened to John (mumbles) Kerry stumble and stammer through an explanation of the need for the fairness doctrine.
I am a little curious as to why economic forces can't do the job. When Air America went under it was after several people were found to have given them money that should have gone elsewhere. They couldn't get sponsors for their programing, in my opinion, due to the ranting and drivel of Mr. Franken. The content, or non content, if you prefer, didn't draw an audience.

That means they were so far left, that the left couldn't listen to them.

Now that’s bad I don't care who you are.

The market is the key, it is the people. If the people don't want to hear the junk, why try to force the media into delivering unwanted trash?

If there is no market, how will they force anyone to listen. If the intent is to be fair in the dissemination of information, then they will have to air something besides Democratic talking points and conspiracy theories.

So far that would be the only thing the Dems. don't complain about.

Conservative Talk shows are not, to the best of my knowledge, financed by public funds. National Public Radio, the bastion of liberal opinion, is publicly funded.

Does anyone think the government will decide to be fair and let conservative programing come to NPR? I'm thinking not.

All that is mildly interesting to me, only mildly.

The thing I find so hard to understand is the people have spoken, they want to hear conservative radio, if they wanted to listen to liberal spewing, they would. The politicos need to listen to the will of their constituants, and conduct themselves accordingly.

Why can't we let the market place determine the will of the people?
